Articles Success Stories: Rathore School
Rathore School in Newry caters for children and young people aged 3–19 with complex learning difficulties across the Newry and Down region.
With over 230 students and 130 staff, the school’s vision is to nurture a community of life-long learners in a safe, secure, and fun environment where all students can thrive, grow, and achieve their full potential.
Staff and leaders were looking for an effective, sustainable way to provide ongoing staff development, manage training courses, and ensure consistent approaches to behaviour support across the school.
Pat felt that Team Teach’s digital platforms, Connect and the Knowledge Hub, provided clarity for staff, were easily accessible, and offered a vast range of resources to support training course management as well as ongoing professional development around behaviour support.
As Pat explains, “The online platforms [Connect and the Knowledge Hub] are colourful, clear, and easy to navigate. The engaging visuals, along with clearly signposted areas, make it simple to access the variety of information and guidance available.”
Rathore School has a long history of prioritising high-quality support to meet the diverse needs of its students.
With a focus on embedding consistent, positive approaches, the school continues to adapt and refine its strategies.
Leaders faced the challenge of coordinating and planning training for a large staff team while also ensuring that resources were easy to access and practical to share across departments.
In addition, staff needed reliable, evidence-based strategies and resources to support students with complex needs.
The aim was to provide staff with accessible digital tools and resources to make training delivery and classroom behaviour support easier.
Through using Team Teach Connect, Pat has streamlined the process of planning, delivering, and evaluating courses, ensuring training is well-structured and accessible.
The Knowledge Hub offers a wide range of practical resources that can be downloaded and shared directly with staff, to support course delivery and ongoing professional learning,
The combination of these platforms ensures that both training logistics and day-to-day staff support are covered in one digital ecosystem.
By August 2025, 96 staff members (74%) were accredited in Team Teach Level 1 training, reflecting a growing culture of professional learning and development across the whole staff team.
Staff are increasingly accessing guidance through Connect and the Knowledge Hub to support and enhance their own professional development.
Practical resources are being shared across teams, helping to improve consistency in classroom approaches and ensuring a cohesive and effective learning environment.
Following on from its success to date, Rathore School plans to further expand its use of the online platforms, the Knowledge Hub and Connect.
As senior leader, behaviour lead, and Team Teach trainer, Pat is driving engagement with the platforms, actively exploring their features, and sharing resources widely across the staff team, to embed learning into daily practice throughout the academic year.
