DfE Reasonable Force 2026: Recording and Reporting

Webinar exploring updated Department for Education requirements around recording and reporting.

The latest DfE guidance on restrictive interventions and the use of reasonable force in schools places a clear emphasis on how incidents are recorded, reviewed, and reported. For schools that have already invested in Team Teach training, the next challenge is ensuring your internal systems and processes support staff to meet these expectations consistently and confidently.

Many school leaders and Team Teach trainers have requested a focused session on the practical expectations around recording incidents and reporting responsibilities.

In this webinar, we'll discuss what schools need to do in practice and how to ensure systems are robust, consistent and supportive for staff, and what it means in practice for school leaders, safeguarding teams, and behaviour leads. We’ll look at the practical responsibilities schools now need to consider, including:

  • When and how incidents involving restrictive interventions should be formally recorded
  • What schools need to report to parents and carers
  • The role of school leaders and governors in reviewing behaviour data
  • How consistent documentation supports safeguarding, transparency, and accountability
  • Using incident records to identify patterns and support preventative behaviour strategies
  • The role technology plays in supporting schools meet their responsibilities while reducing administrative burden and save time
  • How Behaviour Smart (and other systems) can be used to help schools move beyond simple incident logging to create a more effective system for capturing behaviour information, analysing trends and supporting staff practice

Whether you are a Team Teach trainer, Headteacher, DSL, Behaviour Lead, or SENDCO, this session will help you ensure your school’s recording and reporting processes align with the expectations set out by the DfE.
